James Lawson-Smith has been using a PC computer since the age of 5, that’s 23 years. As a kid he was always surrounded by gadgets and technology. In middle school he was the one the teachers turned to when something went wrong or did not know what to do with the computers, and that was a lot.
Once leaving secondary school with 11 GCSEs his first job was working for a software company selling Citrix Metaframe, Citrix Winframe and Warp OS2. He helped a lot of companies fix their “Y2K Bug” issues including a £2,000,000 deal with Safeway Stores.

He has also worked as a network administrator for USF Dewplan while they upgraded their systems from Windows 2000 server over too Citrix.  He provided local support on both systems as they moved over and while there in house administrators learned the new systems.

James has always had a keen interest in audio and music. He has worked on various stage productions as sound and LX (Lighting) including Saturday Night Fever, Stomp, Phantom of the Opera and many others. While he was unemployed for a short he decided to go to The Harris Institute in Canada and do a short Media course. Here he learnt a lot about live sound and music composition. While in Canada James had the privilege of doing some sound engineering at Jeff Healey’s Road House night club, managed by the legendary Jeff Healey.

Since coming back from Canada James has undertaken a variety of occupations including Pub Manager, DJ, Lighting Engineer, Sound Engineer, Computer Technician, Website Developer, Graphic Designer among others.  In 2008 James decided to start his own company specialising in Web and Graphic design. Since starting the company he has worked for many high profile clients including

  • Vern Buchanan, U.S Congessman of the 13th District of Florida
  • Jason Riley, Director of Performance at The Athletes Compound in Tampa, Florida and Founder of Elementz Nutrition
  • Bobbi Billard, Model, Actress and entrepreneur

Since starting ReviewsFromTheShed James has done video reviews for Nero, Convar, PowerMat, GrowUpJapan, 3Dconnexion, moo.com, RotoLight and more. The reason James called it ReviewsFromTheShed is simple, they started off being recorded in a simple shed at the end   of his garden. He has since become more professional adding on-screen titles, lower thirds graphics and company logos to each video review he now does.
